The Algarve is rightly known for its endless golden beaches and guaranteed sun, but it offers something for everyone. The west is wild and windy, sparsely populated and immensely popular with surfers keen on the fierce Atlantic Ocean waves that pound the cliffs there.

With suites and rooms designed to accommodate children (the suites have separate sitting rooms with a kitchenette and dining table, and a sofa bed), this is particularly good for families. So too, are the many children’s activities: treasure hunts (day and night), paintball, chameleon observation treks and open-air cinema sessions with plenty of popcorn. When the hotel facilities have been exhausted, the beach is a hop and a skip away, through an aromatic pine forest. Food at A Terra is rustic and comforting with farm-to-table dishes cooked in wood-fired ovens and the Josper grill.
