IHG Hotels and Resorts has opened its latest Crowne Plaza property in Portugal.

The former Hotel Aldeia dos Capuchos Golf and Spa has reopened as the Crowne Plaza Caparica Lisbon, following a one-year renovation programme which has seen the addition of a new heated outdoor swimming pool.

The property’s restaurant has also been expanded and the hotel’s public areas have also undergone a refresh.

Other facilities include an indoor swimming pool, fitness centre, sauna, Turkish baths, seven treatment rooms, two function spaces accommodating up to 500 guests, and a further seven meeting rooms.

The 227-room hotel is situated around 15 minutes’ drive southeast of Lisbon, and a ten-minute walk from the beach.

The previous incarnation of the hotel also featured a nine hole golf course, but this is not mentioned on the IHG webpage for the property – Business Traveller has contacted IHG to clarify this, and will post any response here.

Commenting on the news Luis Mexia Alves, CEO of the property’s owner Discovery hotel Management, said:

“We believe that regeneration and the ‘turn around’ is something that is in our DNA, which sets us apart as a hotel group, and this is where we truly invest: raising service standards and optimising the management and operation of our hotels.

“The opening of the Crowne Plaza Caparica Lisbon reinforces not only our offer in the MICE category, but also offers a true refuge from the city of Lisbon.”

IHG lists two other Crowne Plaza properties in Portugal – the Crowne Plaza Porto, and the Crowne Plaza Vilamoura – Algarve.
